Planning a visit to McGill? You could stay in one of the generic McGill University hotels downtown, or you could stay at the Gingerbread Manor – a historic Victorian B&B in the heart of the Plateau.
We’re a favorite for parents visiting students and academics attending conferences. Why? Because we offer a peaceful night’s sleep on a residential street, a proper homemade breakfast, and a scenic, flat walk straight to the Roddick Gates.
Why Visitors to McGill University Prefer the Manor Over a Hotel
Choosing where to stay near campus comes down to the experience you want. Here is how we compare to a standard hotel:
A walk you’ll actually enjoy: We are a 18-minute, flat walk to the Roddick Gates. Just head right on Avenue Laval and walk straight along Sherbrooke Street. It’s safe, simple, and takes you past some of the city’s best architecture.
Breakfast that matters: Skip the “liquid eggs” at the hotel buffet. Our multi-course, homemade breakfasts are included every morning, so you’re well-fed before a long day of touring the campus.
Quiet and residential: McGill’s downtown campus is exciting, but it’s loud. We are tucked away on a tree-lined street in the Plateau, steps from local cafés but far enough from the downtown construction and sirens.
Easy logistics: No car? No problem. The 24 Bus runs directly along Sherbrooke to McGill, and the Sherbrooke Metro is just around the corner.
Getting to McGill from the Manor
You don’t need a car to navigate your visit. From our front door, it is a pleasant 18-minute walk, a 9-minute bike ride, or a quick 5-minute trip by taxi or Uber. If you prefer public transit, the 24 Bus runs directly along Sherbrooke Street, and the Sherbrooke Metro station is just around the corner.
