Period Charm, Thoughtful Modern Comforts

A Victorian Bed and Breakfast in Montreal’s Plateau

Built in 1885 on land once owned by Alexandre Maurice Delisle, Gingerbread Manor sits on Avenue Laval, a street often called one of Montreal’s most beautiful. The developer built three row houses here, with our manor as the middle house, and much of the era’s character remains. You will find classic greystone, high ceilings, and warm woodwork set on a quiet, tree lined block beside Square Saint Louis. The neighbourhood has everything within reach, including cafés, bakeries, and a short walk to the mountain or the river. Once you step inside, it feels calm and residential, the way a true Victorian inn should.

More Than a Stay, A Story

This house tells its story in details. The staircase sweeps up in polished wood, watched over by a statue lamp at the base. Stained glass appears like small surprises as you move through the rooms. The Frontenac room features birds in coloured glass, while the living room windows hold old photographs that catch the afternoon light. You can feel the care that has gone into preserving what matters and updating what helps. Guests often say the house becomes part of their trip, a place to slow down, read a few pages before breakfast, and come home to in the evening.

Period Charm, Thoughtful Modern Comforts

Breakfast is served in the dining room each morning. It is vegetarian, with one hot dish prepared by the chef and a different menu every day. We use local products and produce when available. Every room includes free Wi‑Fi, blackout curtains, and central heating. Air conditioning runs from Victoria Day to Canadian Thanksgiving. Quiet hours are from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. You will find the balance we look for when we travel ourselves, character you can see and comforts you feel. It is what makes a historic bed and breakfast in the Plateau both practical and memorable.

Location matters, and ours makes exploring easy. Sherbrooke metro is 400 metres away, about five minutes on foot, and bus 24 runs along Sherbrooke Street. Berri UQAM and Saint Laurent stations are also close, about 750 metres. Walk two minutes to Square Saint Louis, a favourite with locals, or follow the trees along Avenue Laval. Old Montreal is a 20 to 25 minute walk depending on your route. Place des Arts and the Quartier des spectacles are about 15 minutes. Downtown is roughly 25 minutes. The Latin Quarter is next door, with hundreds of restaurants in every direction, from morning coffee to late night bistros.

Meet Your Hosts

We keep the focus on the house and your time in the city, but we are always here in the morning to serve breakfast, answer questions, and help you plan the day. We speak English and French and are happy to suggest a neighbourhood restaurant, book a table, or point you toward a quiet corner of Mount Royal. If you have dietary needs, tell us when you book and we will do our best to help.
